WASHINGTON, DC-Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (MD-06) released the following statement in response to last night's State of the Union address:
"I did not attend the State of the Union because I stand for the Maryland families whose safety and well-being are suffering because of this Administration's policies. Over the past year, the Trump Administration has attacked the Maryland working families I represent - including farmers, federal workers, small business owners, flood victims, and legal immigrants - while failing to deliver on his promise to lower the cost of living and advancing harmful immigration and ICE enforcement policies, including the federal purchase of a warehouse in Washington County to be converted into a massive detention facility without proper review or public input.
"Enough is enough.
"This past week, my congressional office released my 'Costs Down, Opportunity Up' agenda to lower everyday expenses, build more housing, protect Medicare and health care, create good-paying jobs, and make the ultra-wealthy finally pay their fair share. For MD-06 families, that means funding Universal Pre-K, expanding the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit, lowering child and senior care costs, supporting paid leave, and strengthening Social Security.
"Americans deserve leadership that meets the moment and addresses problems. I'm fighting everyday to deliver real relief and real results."
The Congresswoman announced last week her decision to not attend the speech. Instead, she joined with many of her colleagues in Congress for the People's State of the Union event on the National Mall.
