Blumenthal Statement on Senate Vote to Halt Trump's Unauthorized War in Iran

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] - U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the below statement today following a vote in the U.S. Senate to invoke the War Powers Act and halt unauthorized military operations in Iran.

"Congress has spoken: President Trump's feckless war in Iran must end. After weeks of unnecessary bloodshed - thousands of civilians dead, countless more displaced, American servicemembers killed, and hundreds injured - we are no better off now than we were when the President started this war. Costs are skyrocketing, and the impact on the world economy will reverberate for months to come - if not years. Now, a bipartisan majority in both houses of Congress have rebuked Trump's senseless catastrophe - revealing cratering support as costs continue to climb. American families cannot afford the Trump Administration failing to heed Congress' call to end the war and end it now," said Blumenthal.
