WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) and the lead Democrat on the SFRC subcommittee responsible for human rights, released the following statement after SFRC voted to advance the nomination of William White to be Ambassador to Belgium. White was reported out of SFRC by a partisan Republican majority despite White's amplification of a convicted white nationalist influencer and Holocaust denier, and his trafficking in election conspiracy theories:
"In order to be an effective advocate for America's national security interests around the world, our diplomats must have good judgment. It's obvious that William White, who has amplified online content from a Belgian provocateur convicted of inciting violence and denying the Holocaust, has demonstrated a complete and utter lack of that judgment. I'm also disturbed that White has called a Republican Senate colleague a 'snake' and has repeatedly fomented baseless conspiracy theories about the security of the 2020 election, including calling Georgia's Secretary of State a 'MOTHER EFFER' who should be 'locked up.' I urge all of my colleagues to join me in opposing the nomination of any individual-including White-who has endorsed antisemitic and conspiratory rhetoric."
Kaine pressed White about his concerning social media use during a SFRC hearing on July 22, 2025.
