Eastgate Park outdoor sport courts to become dedicated pickleball facility

Published August 28 2026

Responding to increasing community demand, Bellevue Parks & Community Services will convert the dual‐use outdoor sport courts at Eastgate Park into a dedicated pickleball-only facility.

Beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 1, tennis nets will be removed and the two dual-use sport courts - currently operating as tennis courts overlaid with markings for four pickleball courts using portable nets - will permanently transition to pickleball-only use. The courts will remain first-come, first-serve and will be open during posted park hours.

Pickleball participation continues to rise citywide, supported by multiple recreation planning assessments and high interest in the sport expressed through community feedback. The court conversion aligns with Bellevue's recreation access goals and ensures long-term quality and usability of the courts. A follow-up project is planned to resurface the courts with only pickleball lines, creating durable and consistent play conditions.

While tennis will no longer be available at Eastgate Park once the nets are removed, several nearby parks continue to offer public tennis courts, including Silver Leaf, Lakemont, Spiritridge and Sunset - all within approximately three miles of Eastgate Park.

Bellevue's Parks & Community Services Department does not currently have conversions planned at any other dual-use courts in Bellevue. The department strives to provide accessible and inclusive recreation opportunities and maintain valued, high-quality outdoor spaces throughout the city.
