University Avenue Hit and Run Investigation

The Berkeley Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run collision that occurred at the intersection of University Avenue and Eighth Street on October 7 at approximately 9 p.m.

On October 7th at about 9 pm, officers responded to the intersection of University Avenue and Eighth Street after receiving a report that two pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found a 78-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman who had sustained serious injuries in the collision. Berkeley Fire Department personnel transported both victims to a local hospital with major injuries.

The driver who struck the pedestrians did not remain at the scene.

Due to the severity of the collision, the Department's Fatal Accident Investigation Team is conducting the investigation. Preliminary information indicates that the man and woman were crossing University Avenue in the eastern crosswalk when they were struck by a dark-colored sedan traveling eastbound on University Avenue.
