House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting to Hold Third Meeting in Moultrie

ATLANTA - The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting, chaired by State Representative Chas Cannon (R-Moultrie), will hold its third meeting on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 9 a.m. at Southern Regional Technical College in Moultrie, Ga.

During the meeting, members of the study committee will hear testimony from various agencies and organizations to discuss sales tax collection and disbursement processes in Georgia, approval processes for each local sales tax penny, recommendations for improvements in sales tax management and utilization, proposed policy recommendations for changes to the current sales tax statute, as well as issues and challenges related to local government insurance.

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting will evaluate Georgia's local funding mechanisms to strengthen transparency, ensure fairness for hardworking taxpayers and increase fiscal accountability for local governments.
