Figma localizes product and support for Korean market

Figma is fully localizing for the Korean market. This marks its third product localization, following Japanese and Spanish, as part of its goal of getting closer to users and its vision to make design accessible to all. The localization includes a complete product translation, culturally adapted user interfaces, and dedicated support for Korean language users.

"One of the most common requests we get from customers around the world is for a product that is intuitive and speaks their language," says Yuhki Yamashita, Chief Product Officer at Figma."We're thrilled to make the lives of our Korean customers easier through a fully localized product and support tailored to their needs."

Figma already has a thriving base of customers and community members in South Korea, and is serving many of the country's largest enterprises as well as its newest startups. Companies such as Gangnam Unni, Daangn, KakaoBank, and Woowa Brothers, are using the platform for collaborative design and product development. The Seoul chapter of Friends of Figma (FoF)-an inclusive creator community run by Figma users-boasts more than 1,000 active members.

Today, nearly a third of South Korea's KOSPI 200 use Figma. In the last year alone, there were more than four million Figma files created in South Korea. On average, there are more than 75,000 Figma files edited every day across the country.

KakaoBank, a South Korean internet bank, credits Figma for a 30% increase in employee productivity. "Figma is the first tool we open in the morning," says Seung-Hwan Lee, Design Lead at KakaoBank. "Having it fully localized means we can work much faster on critical projects without having to think in two languages."

Korean localization reflects Figma's global footprint, with 85% of its monthly active users located outside the United States, and approximately 50% of revenue coming from non-U.S. markets at the end of 2024. Nearly two-thirds of monthly active users identify beyond traditional design roles, with approximately 30% self-identifying as developers.

Woowa Brothers, the technology company behind popular delivery platforms in South Korea, also expressed enthusiasm about the localization. "Figma has transformed how we conceptualize and develop our digital products," says Kwanhee Cho, Senior Design Director at Woowa Brothers. "Being able to work 100% in Korean lifts a huge language barrier, allowing more people into the design process."

The localization coincides with Figma's release of new products, designed to support the end-to-end product development process-from idea to reality.

In 2021, Figma launched FigJam, an online whiteboarding tool for teams to meet, brainstorm, and get work done.

In 2023, it launched Dev Mode to help teams translate designs into coded products.

In 2024, the company launched Figma Slides, a tool that uses Figma's powerful design and collaboration capabilities to help teams craft engaging presentations.

Also in 2024, Figma introduced a suite of AI-powered features to help bring the best ideas to life.

"Having to switch languages while building products is an unnecessary drag on creativity," says Scott Pugh, Vice President of APAC at Figma. "Imagine opening Figma and seeing everything in your native language. This opens up the design and development process, making it easier for people-both designers and non-designers-to collaborate in Figma."

The Korean version of Figma will enter open beta with a phased rollout on April 16.

Figma will also be hosting its annual user conference Config in San Francisco (May 6-8) and London (May 14), where it will launch new products and features to improve the product development process.
