On April 28, the Handover Ceremony of the China-Aid Project of ECOWAS Headquarters Building was grandly held in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. Attendees included H.E. Ambassador Yu Dunhai, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria and Representative to ECOWAS, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H.E. Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory H.E. Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, among others, who delivered remarks.
Ambassador Yu stated that the ECOWAS Headquarters project is an important outcome under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). China will continue to uphold the principles of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in its Africa policy, as well as the correct approach to justice and interests. Guided by the "Ten Partnership Actions" and the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, China will carry forward the tradition of China-Africa friendship, deepen practical cooperation, jointly advance Africa's modernization, and work together to build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.
ECOWAS and the Nigerian side expressed their sincere appreciation to the Chinese government and people, highly commending China's long-standing and valuable support for regional peace, security, and development. They noted that the new headquarters building will significantly enhance institutional capacity and regional coordination.
