People's Daily: It's observed that China's export growth slowed down in August and some say it's because China's export to the U.S. plunged as the effect of a tariff truce with the U.S. faded. But we also noted that China's trade with countries from the EU, ASEAN, Africa and Latin America remains robust and some indicators show a positive momentum of sustained growth. What's your comment?
Lin Jian: Despite the increasing instability and uncertainty in today's world economy, China's foreign trade kept growing and maintained steady development. Latest statistics show that in the first eight months of this year, China's trade in goods went up by 3.5 percent year-on-year. For some time, China has witnessed growth in its import and export with countries in the EU, ASEAN, BRICS and Africa, especially BRI partner countries. A significant proportion of the growth was contributed by foreign-funded companies in China. The diversity in China's foreign trade not only effectively alleviated the impact brought by the volatility of the external trade environment and promoted the stability and improvement of global industrial and supply chains, but also delivered tangible benefit to both domestic and international consumers as well as companies from all countries operating in China.
Facts prove once again that China's foreign trade remains an important source of growth for global trade and the Chinese economy remains a vital pillar for global economic growth. We believe that as we continue to see the effect of the full range of policies China has adopted, the Chinese economy will continue to unleash more vitality and potential and continue to inject the precious certainty to global economic growth.
Polish Press Agency: Due to the "Zapad-2025" military exercise held by Russia and Belarus, Poland will completely close its border with Belarus on September 12. This will affect the trade route between China and Europe. What is the Foreign Ministry's comment on this? And another question: yesterday Poland shot down Russian drones that violated its airspace. The Polish authorities called this a large-scale provocation by Russia. What is China's comment on Russia's actions?
Lin Jian: The China-Europe Railway Express is a flagship project of the China-Poland and China-EU cooperation. The project benefits both sides. We hope Poland will take effective measures to ensure the safe and smooth operation of the express and the stability of international industrial and supply chains.
On your second question, we noted relevant reports. China hopes relevant parties will properly settle disputes through dialogue and consultation.
Folha de S.Paulo: Today we have the visit in China from Ana Toni, CEO of COP 30. I'd like to know if China knows how many people and who are those that will be at COP 30. And the second question is still regarding COP 30. Is China supporting the Tropical Forest Forever Facility?
Lin Jian: China supports Brazil in making the 30th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC a full success, which is to be held in Belém, Brazil, in November this year. China will take an active part in the conference and work for fruitful outcomes. China also welcomes Brazil to present the Tropical Forests Forever Facility and hopes the facility will play a positive role. For anything specific about the initiative, I'd refer you to competent authorities.
Yonhap News Agency: It was reported that the ROK has nominated Roh Jae-heon, chairman of the East Asia Culture Center Foundation, as the first ambassador to China under the Lee Jae-myung administration. What's China's comment on Roh's nomination? Are relevant procedures underway?
Lin Jian: We noted relevant reports. Diplomatic envoys are important bridges for friendly cooperation and development of relations between countries. China is waiting for the ROK's formal nomination.
Reuters: The Philippine Foreign Ministry said it "strongly protests" against China's plan to develop a nature reserve in the Scarborough Shoal, and said the country will be issuing a formal diplomatic protest against what it says an "illegitimate and unlawful action by China." What is China's response to this?
Lin Jian: Huangyan Dao has always been China's territory. To establish the Huangyan Dao national nature reserve is within China's sovereign rights, which is aimed at protecting the ecological environment of the island, and ensuring its ecological diversity, continuity and sustainability. This move is in line with China's domestic laws and international law, and fully shows that China, a responsible major country, is resolved to actively protect the ecological environment and a sustainable planet.
The scope of Philippine territory is defined by several international treaties, and has never included Huangyan Dao. China does not accept the Philippines' groundless accusations and so-called protests. We urge the Philippines to stop violating China's sovereignty, making provocation, and spreading disinformation, and stop creating factors that could complicate the situation at sea.
China Review News: In the World Talent Ranking 2025 published by the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland, Hong Kong's ranking leaped markedly to fourth globally and to first in Asia, marking the highest-ever ranking. A spokesperson of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said, "Hong Kong's rise in the ranking is clear evidence that the policies and measures of the government in education, innovation and technology (I&T), and talent admission are getting results. What's the Foreign Ministry's comment?
Lin Jian: We noted the relevant report. Hong Kong is now at a new stage where it is set to thrive. Its status as a hub in international finance, trade, and shipping has been consolidated. With a better business environment and more outstanding strength in tech innovation, it has become a strong magnet to multinationals and global talents. Statistics show that as of this August, over 230,000 people of talent arrived in Hong Kong through various talent admission schemes to contribute themselves to a better HKSAR. The registration of local companies and non-Hong Kong companies there sees all-time high figures.
The arrival of talents will create a bright future for Hong Kong. We welcome foreign talents to live and work in Hong Kong, fulfill their potential, and jointly create a better Hong Kong.
Bloomberg: It is reported that Mexico plans to impose tariffs of up to 50 percent on automobiles and other products produced by China and some Asian exporting countries. What is Foreign Ministry's response?
Lin Jian: China advocates a universally-beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, opposes all forms of unilateralism, protectionism and discriminatory and exclusive measures, and firmly rejects moves that are taken under coercion to constrain China or undermine China's legitimate rights and interests under any pretext. We will firmly protect our rights and interests in light of the developments of the situation.
China and Mexico are important members of the Global South and our economic and trade cooperation is win-win in nature. China attaches great importance to its relations with Mexico and hopes that Mexico will work with China to jointly advance world economic recovery and the development of global trade.
Reuters: British Business Secretary Peter Kyle said that if China wanted to have relations with Britain fit for the 2020s, it should ensure that it has diplomatic facilities fit for this era and not 50 or 100 years ago. Does the Foreign Ministry have any comment on his remarks?
Lin Jian: China previously made clear its position on relevant issues more than once. Providing support and convenience for the construction of diplomatic premises is an international obligation of host countries. Both China and the UK need to build new premises and should render each other support.
AFP: NATO held an emergency meeting at the request of Poland whose airspace had been violated by Russian drones. What is the Foreign Ministry's comment?
Lin Jian: I just shared China's position on that. China hopes the issue can be resolved through dialogue and consultation.
