OAS Electoral Observation Mission in Honduras Reiterates Its Call for Peaceful Elections and Full Compliance with Current Regulations

October 30, 2025

One month ahead of Honduras' general elections, the Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Honduras, led by former Foreign Minister of Paraguay Eladio Loizaga, reiterates its call to ensure elections are held in peace and tranquility-conditions that require electoral authorities to be able to carry out their technical work in accordance with the law.

The OAS/EOM also considers that internal differences within collegiate electoral bodies can reflect healthy pluralism when expressed respectfully. However, during this electoral process, disagreements among Honduran authorities have at times led to paralysis of activities, delays in the electoral calendar, and unnecessary tension.

The autonomy and independence of electoral authorities are essential principles in a democracy. The free exercise of their functions, as well as the stability of those responsible for organizing and overseeing elections, are fundamental requirements for ensuring democratic processes.

The elections on November 30 belong to all Honduran citizens. In this context, the Mission calls on State institutions, political forces, civil society, the media, and citizens to cooperate in ensuring a successful electoral process-one in which the will of the people can be freely expressed at the polls and confidence in the results is upheld.

In the coming weeks, the OAS Mission will begin its nationwide deployment of 100 observers to monitor the elections. This will be the thirteenth OAS Mission deployed in Honduras.
