Washington - Today, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), highlighted important funding wins for Kansas in the Defense Appropriations Bill. This funding will assist Kansas communities, support education for the next generation, provide important training for our troops, and strengthen medical research.
The appropriations funding includes:
-
$53 million for the STARBASE Program
-
$50 million for Impact Aid
-
$2 million for National Guard wildfire training
-
$14.6 million for Civil Air Patrol
-
$145 million for the Breast Cancer Research Program
-
$370 million for endometriosis research
-
$75 million for the Prostate Cancer Research Program
"As a veteran, medical doctor, father, and grandfather, I am excited to share this funding," said Senator Marshall. "From supporting our military communities, training the National Guard, advancing lifesaving medical research, and funding programs that provide STEM education and life skills to the next generation, every one of these dollars is a win for our country. I will always support our troops, our veterans, and the next-generation of Kansas leaders."
Background:
-
Kansas is home to five different STARBASE sites located in Salina, Manhattan, Wichita, Topeka, and Kansas City, and serves more than 8,000 Kansas school children each year, many from low-income and disadvantaged communities.
-
Impact Aid is provided to school districts that serve military families to replace property tax revenue. Kansas ranks in the top 10 states nationally for active-duty military school-aged children.
-
National Guard wildfire training is important to ensure our Guard has the appropriate training and equipment to manage wildfires in Kansas and across the country.
-
Civil Air Patrol serves as the civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, serving the nation and training hundreds of Kansas students.
-
Funding for breast cancer, endometriosis, and prostate cancer research comes from the Defense Health Program.
