SUBJ/1ST MARINE AIRCRAFT WING ANNIVERSARY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. On behalf of the entire Marine Corps, I am proud
to recognize the Marines and Sailors of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing
on the occasion of its 85th anniversary.
2. Since its activation on 7 July 1941, 1st MAW has been a
cornerstone of American airpower and a critical enabler of the Marine
Corps' ability to fight and win. From the skies over the Pacific in
World War II, to the frozen mountains of Korea, the jungles of
Vietnam, and the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, 1st MAW aviators
and support personnel have answered every call with skill and an
unwavering commitment to their fellow warfighters on the ground.
The 18 campaign streamers adorning 1st MAW's colors are not merely
history - they reflect a tradition of upholding the highest
standards.
3. Today, forward-deployed from Okinawa, Japan, 1st MAW remains a
crucial part of America's ready force. The Indo-Pacific demands
Marines who are lethal, adaptive, and prepared to operate across
all domains under the most contested conditions imaginable. 1st MAW
is up to that challenge, reflecting the very best of what our Corps
demands and expects through its mastery of warfighting skills,
integration with joint and allied partners, and readiness to
execute on short notice.
4. Semper Fidelis, Eric M. Smith, General, U.S. Marine Corps,
Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
