Rep. Boy Endorses Randy Novak as State House Successor

INDIANAPOLIS - Today, the Indiana Democratic Party thanks State Representative Pay Boy for more than 22 years of dedicated service to Northwest Indiana, and begins the process to replace her in office for State House District 9.

"Representative Boy has been a critical part of the fights for a clean Indiana environment, for better workers wages, and for affordable health care for Hoosiers her entire career," said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Karen Tallian. "She has been a successful and valuable member of our Indiana House Democratic Caucus and our Party who will be missed. During her time in the legislature, she passed critical legislation on issues ranging from overdose reversal drugs to exempting motor driven cycles from the electric vehicle tax, work that put Hoosiers and their needs first. Her drive and work on issues like these will be missed, but we thank her for her commitment to fighting for these critical Democratic values."

Representative Boy has served District 9, which includes the cities and towns of Michigan City, Springfield, Beverly Shores and parts of Chesterton, since 2018. She has endorsed Randy Novak, current La Porte County Councilman, to be the next representative for District 9.

"The decision to leave public office has been a long time coming for me, with much back-

and-forth," said Rep. Boy. "As with my position as councilwoman, which lasted 15 years, I am self-limiting my term. Twenty-two years of public service will suffice. Ultimately, I want to spend more time with my family before they grow away from me, and that means it is time for another public servant to step forward. I am excited that Randy Novak has chosen to pursue the role of House District 9 State Representative."

Randy Novak, of La Porte County, is currently serving his 11th year on the County Council, including five years as president. He is a Broker Associate with Century 21 Circle and the Ombudsman for the Indiana Association of Realtors. Previously, Randy retired as Fire Chief of the Michigan City Fire Department. In all Randy's public services, he has Focused on fiscal responsibility and improving the quality of life for his community.

Before retiring from the fire department, Randy served as the Union President of the Michigan City Firefighters Local #475. He was also appointed to the Indiana Pension Management Oversight Commission for four years, where he helped safeguard public safety officer's and other state employee's retirement pensions.

Randy continues to be involved as Chairman of the La Porte County Fire Chiefs Association, the President of the La Porte County Fairground Management & Event Corp., a board member for the North Central Community Action Agencies, and on the La Porte County 911 Advisory Board.

Per state law, a caucus of precinct committeepersons in District 9 will be called to fill the remainder of Rep. Boy's current term within 30 days of her resignation.
