DENVER - April 1, 2026 - Today, Denver International Airport (DEN) unveiled a new Colorado-inspired, healthy option for vertical access inside the Jeppesen Terminal. This new amenity reimagines how travelers move between floors while embracing the state's iconic outdoor culture. Located near the East Security Checkpoint, this new amenity allows passengers to travel from Level 5 to Level 6 in a Mile High way. Introducing: the Great Hall Climbing Wall.
"We're bringing the outdoors inside," DEN CEO Phil Washington said. "Inspired by Colorado's love for outdoor recreation and its reputation as one of the healthiest states in the U.S., we're excited to provide a new and fun way for Coloradans to stay true to their active lifestyles as they move through our Terminal."
After serving a record-breaking 82.4 million passengers last year, DEN continues to emphasize efficient passenger flow throughout the Terminal while enhancing the customer experience. With both the East and West Security Checkpoints now fully operational and designed for safety and efficiency, the airport is leveraging direct vertical transportation, which studies show is 23% faster than walking and navigating various escalators and elevators.
The climbing wall is free and officially opens to passengers today. Given its expected popularity and novelty, trained Vertical Transportation Specialists are stationed on-site and available to assist passengers with carry-on bags, backpacks, purses and equipment as needed to help ensure a smooth and safe experience. Comfortable shoes are required and users will be required to sign a waiver and utilize safety gear.
Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. DEN is the primary economic engine for the state of Colorado, generating more than $47.2 billion for the region annually.
