The 14th meeting of the Korea-Japan Joint Committee on Science and Technology Cooperation was held on November 27 in Tokyo, under the framework of the bilateral Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement.
The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Han Minyoung, Director-General for Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Scientific Affairs, together with Japan's Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation, Hiroshi Kawamura. Representatives from relevant ministries, agencies, and research institutions of both countries took part, reflecting strong mutual interest in advancing bilateral cooperation.
Korea and Japan exchanged updates on their respective science, technology, and innovation policies. The two sides engaged in detailed discussions on the current status and future prospects of cooperation in AI, space policy, quantum technology, and biotechnology, as well as ways to strengthen collaboration among major research institutions.
* The Korea-Japan Joint Committee on Science and Technology Cooperation is convened under the bilateral Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement signed in December 1985. At the Korea-Japan Summit in September 2025, the two leaders agreed to resume the Committee and actively discuss cooperation in emerging technology fields, including AI. The previous (13th) Committee meeting was held in Seoul in October 2009.
