Day 10 of Trump Shutdown: Over 267,000 Veterans Will be Impacted if Republicans Let ACA Tax Credits Expire Arrow

New data reveal that over 267,000 veterans will see their health care premiums skyrocket if Donald Trump and Republicans refuse to extend the Affordable Care Act's enhanced premium tax credits.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson are refusing to pay military personnel and active duty troops during Trump's shutdown. Democrats have called on Johnson and Thune to pass legislation to pay our troops during Trump's shutdown - but they would rather protect their billionaire tax breaks while military families pay the price.

In response, DNC Deputy Rapid Response Director Jaelin O'Halloran released the following statement:

"Donald Trump has said that 'America must never abandon our heroes in their hour of need' - and yet how does he repay them? With a one-two punch of gutting their health care and refusing to pay our troops. Trump, Johnson, and Thune would rather protect their billionaire tax cuts and screw over the brave men and women who have served this country - all because they refuse to support Democrats' common-sense plan to make health care affordable for tens of millions of Americans. Trump has never cared about our veterans, servicemembers, or their families because he knows nothing about service to anyone but himself."

Trump is no stranger to disrespecting our veterans - he has referred to them as "suckers" and "losers," and fired over 80,000 employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs as part of his crusade to "eliminate waste." While Democrats are prepared to pay our men and women in uniform and protect veterans' health care, Trump and Republicans refuse to return to work in D.C. and are keeping the government shut down to avoid fixing a health care crisis that will hike health care prices for millions of Americans.
