Henderson Reminds Pet Owners to Microchip Pets Ahead of Holiday Travel and New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Microchips and Licenses Are Required for Dogs and Cats Over Four Months Old in Henderson

HENDERSON, Nev.(Dec. 17, 2025) - With holiday travel, visiting guests and New Year's Eve celebrations just around the corner, the City of Henderson is reminding pet owners to microchip and license their pets to help keep them safe.

During the holiday season, families travel, routines change and loud firework celebrations cause pets to panic and run away. Microchipping and licensing help ensure lost pets can be quickly reunited with their families while also helping to keep the shelters less crowded.

In Henderson, all dogs and cats over four months old are required by law to be microchipped and licensed. The procedure is quick, affordable and serves as a dependable backup to collars and tags, which can break or fall off. Some registries even store important medical information, adding another layer of protection for your pet. If they are already microchipped, make sure their contact information is up to date.

Fines for violations start at $100, often more than the cost of a microchip. To learn more about how you can protect your pet and where you can get them microchipped, visit Pet Licenses & Microchip.
