Congressman Pat Ryan Submits Petition with Over 10,000 Signatures to DHS, Community Backlash to ICE Facility Continues to Grow
After the Washington Post reported that a warehouse in Chester, NY would be part of a larger ICE plan to house 80,000 immigrants in warehouses across the country, Congressman Pat Ryan immediately sounded the alarm and released a petition opposing the proposal
With DHS opening public comment period on the proposed facility, Ryan submitted the anonymous, strong backlash of the 10,000+ Hudson Valley community members who oppose ICE moving in to Chester
Ryan is continuing to encourage the Hudson Valley community to show up in force and sign on to the effort to stop the proposed Chester facility
CHESTER, NY - Congressman Pat Ryan is escalating his push and rallying the Hudson Valley community to stop the opening of a proposed ICE facility in Orange County. Ryan is encouraging the Hudson Valley community to show up in force and sign on to the effort to stop the proposed Chester facility.
The proposed facility would use a vacant warehouse in Chester, NY as part of a larger Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plan to house 80,000 migrants in warehouses nationwide. Ryan, receiving no warning or information from the Administration, immediately sounded the alarm and released a petition in opposition to the DHS proposal. In just one week, Ryan's petition has amassed the signatures of more than 10,000 concerned community members, which Ryan anonymously submitted to DHS as evidence of widespread backlash to the proposal across the Hudson Valley.
"In just one week, more than ten thousand members of our community have come together with a clear message for this Administration - we will not stand by and let ICE move into Chester. I'm incredibly proud of how our entire community has rallied, and the momentum only continues to grow, " said Congressman Pat Ryan. "The responses I'm receiving here from our community are among the strongest and most unified I've seen during my time in office. And it's for very good reason- we're seeing law-abiding members of our community snatched off the streets with no due process, and whether that's at facilities in NY or across the country, we will not accept it. The power to keep ICE from moving in, terrorizing our neighbors, and making us all less safe is in our hands. So the Hudson Valley will keep showing ICE, DHS, and Kristi Noem exactly what we're made of as we stand together on the side of justice, accountability, and humanity."
Community members are still encouraged to sign this petitionin opposition to the proposed facility as Hudson Valley-wide backlash to DHS's plan to move ICE into Chester continues to grow.
