Cyber: EU and Brazil hold the 3rd Cyber Dialogue in Brasilia

During the dialogue, the EU and Brazil provided updates on the legislative, institutional and policy developments on cybersecurity, including on the cyber threat landscape. They also addressed the protection of critical infrastructure, secure connectivity, product cybersecurity and market access legislation. The EU and Brazil explored possible lines of cooperation on various aspects, notably on capacity building.

The dialogue also provided an opportunity for exchanges on enhancing cyber stability and accountability in cyberspace. Additionally, the EU and Brazil exchanged views on international processes, in particular on the establishment of the UN Global Mechanism to advance responsible state behaviour in cyberspace, and on combating cybercrime through the use of the UN Cybercrime Convention and Budapest Convention. The EU and Brazil also discussed other multilateral issues, such as the Counter Ransomware Initiative.

On the EU side, the dialogue was co-chaired by Benedikta von Seherr-Thoss, Managing Director for Peace, Security and Defence at the EEAS and Christiane Kirketerp de Viron, Acting Director for Cybersecurity and Trust at the European Commission. On the Brazilian side, Ambassador Marcelo Paz Saraiva Câmara, Director of the Department of Strategic Affairs, Defence and Disarmament at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired the dialogue.

The next EU-Brazil cyber dialogue will be hosted by the EU.
