Governor Polis Memorializes Verbal Disaster Declaration on Sheep Head Fire in Huerfano County
DENVER - Today, Governor Polis took Executive Action to memorialize the Lt. Governor's verbal disaster emergency declaration made on June 30, 2026, in response to the Sheep Head Fire, previously known as the Big Sheep Fire, in Huerfano County. This Executive Order also memorializes the verbal authorization of the Colorado National Guard to assist with response efforts. As of July 21, 2026, the Sheep Head Fire burned 1,322 acres and is 100% contained.
