FSU's 10th Annual Jazz Festival Features the U.S. Navy Band Commodores

Frostburg State University's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance will host its 10th Annual Jazz Festival on Saturday, May 2. The festival provides high school students from the Mid-Atlantic region with an opportunity to participate in afternoon clinics focused on jazz music and performance.

The day's public events include a Jazz Clinic with the U.S. Navy Band Commodores from 1- 3 p.m. in Room 213 of the Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. This clinic is open to the public.

At 4 p.m., the U.S. Navy Band Commodores will perform a special concert in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets are available at the University Box Office in the Lane University Center 203, Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., by phone at 301-687-3137 or online at tickets.frostburg.edu. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the concert.

As the Navy's premier jazz ensemble, the U.S. Navy Band Commodores have been performing the very best of big band jazz for the Navy and the nation for more than 50 years. Formed in 1969, this 18-member group continues the jazz big band legacy with some of the finest musicians in the world. Their mission includes public concerts, national concert tours, ceremonial support in honoring veterans, jazz education classes and clinics, and protocol performances for high-level military and civilian government officials.
