Collaboration with artist Tadashi Kawamata ushers in a new chapter in the history of Ruinart

Crafted from simple materials, creations by Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata are characterized by their sensitivity to wind, water and light. At the crossroads between art, architecture and design, his practice at the same time explores environmental impacts. Tadashi Kawamata challenges our attachment to the permanence of things, which is constantly questioned by forces of nature.

His collaboration with Ruinart's historic site in Reims has given rise to three in-situ artworks - Tree Hut, Nestand Observatory - forming a coherent whole. His installations for the Maison establish an intimate "conversation" with the elements.

The Tree Huts are small wooden cabins that interact with the trees that support them. The artist explores the idea of temporary shelter and a refuge suspended between nature and culture.

Installed against a building façade, Nest evokes the presence of local wildlife - birds, ladybugs, bats and more - that contributes to the biodiversity within the vineyard. Nest is the first work integrated directly in Maison Ruinart's historic building in Reims, joining other works created in the Jardin des Artistes or the famous chalk cellars.

Standing above the Crayères chalk cellars, Tadashi Kawamata's Observatory offers a privileged view of the surrounding landscape. Visitors enjoy a contemplative experience overlooking the local wine-growing and forest ecosystems, notably the diverse plants and trees planted when Ruinart renovated its grounds.

The installation of these permanent works highlights the connections between art, champagne savoir-faire and the local terroir in which it is integrated, making visitors active observers of a changing climate.

"4 rue des Crayères is the fruit of the unique Ruinart spirit, presenting a transformed site that offers a resolutely modern vision of the Maison. Savoir-faire and innovation meld harmoniously in a place marked by a rich history, where nature coexists with culture and heritage," states Frédéric Dufour, President, Maison Ruinart.

Located in the heart of a region renowned worldwide for its winemaking expertise, Maison Ruinart shares its oenological, cultural and gastronomic savoir-faire at its emblematic home in Reims. This destination offers an exceptional immersion into the universe of Ruinart in the heart of a sculpture garden where artisans, artists, chefs and visitors come together.

Respecting a unique heritage while resolutely embracing the future, this address embodies Ruinart's unwavering commitment to cultivating harmony.
