Congresswoman Luz Rivas Mourns the Loss of Dolores Huerta

LOS ANGELES - Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29) - the first Latina to represent California's 29th Congressional District - released the following statement mourning the loss of civil rights leader Dolores Huerta:

"I join my neighbors, friends, and community in mourning the loss of Dolores Huerta, a trailblazer in the civil rights movement and an icon to many. Through her decades of activism fighting labor injustices and inequality, Dolores became an inspiration for generations of organizers and changemakers to continue demanding for a better and just future for all.

"Even in her final months, Dolores continued using her voice to speak truth to power. Her courage to come forward about her own sexual assault earlier this year empowered other women to share their stories and find their voices.

"Dolores' legacy will live on in every person she empowered to speak up, every worker continuing to fight for dignity and fair treatment, and every generation moving the struggle for justice forward. May we honor her memory by continuing the fight she dedicated her life to."
