TAMPA, Fla. (November 16, 2025) -- The Tampa Police Department is continuing to investigate the road way dispute and shooting that occurred on Nov. 14 near E 5th Avenue and N 22nd Street.

Officers responded to the area Friday around 7:10 p.m. after receiving reports of a shot fired. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Dedrick Lamar Sykes (B/M 10/12/1984).

Through the course of the investigation, detectives have learned there was a verbal argument between the two parties involved right before to the shooting. The shooter, an adult male, remained on scene, claimed self-defense, and did not exhibit any signs of impairment during the investigation.

Detectives are working diligently to gather all the facts and circumstances of this case and are committed to a thorough and impartial investigation. They will continue to work with the State Attorney's Office to determine the appropriate course of action.
