LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass today issued the following statement after the Los Angeles City Council passed the City budget:

"I applaud the City Council's support for my plans to hire more LAPD officers, continue moving people inside from encampments, and fix more streets," said Mayor Karen Bass. "When I took office, the LAPD was shrinking, homelessness had been rising for years, and L.A. was the only major American city without a comprehensive infrastructure plan. Under my administration, homelessness is down for two years in a row for the first time in our city's history, violent and property crime are down, and we have created our city's first comprehensive infrastructure plan, all while delivering fiscally responsible budgets. I want to especially thank the Council President and Councilmember Yaroslavsky for their leadership and for joining me in continuing to move Los Angeles forward."

"Today, the City Council approved a budget that reflects the priorities of Angelenos-responding to the homelessness crisis, strengthening public safety, expanding our Unarmed Model of Crisis Response, while investing in clean streets and infrastructure," said Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson. "Between Mayor Bass' leadership that centers the everyday needs of residents and Budget Committee Chair Yaroslavsky's dedication to fiscal health, the city has a strong budget for the next year and sets us up to take the world stage in 2028. Additionally, I want to commend Council President Pro Tempore Blumenfield for bringing his extensive knowledge of budget balancing from his service in the State Assembly and in Council Chambers to this process. As he submits his last budget here, he has built a strong foundation for this committee."

"This budget reflects a serious commitment to improving quality of life for Angelenos while strengthening the City's long-term financial health," said Budget and Finance Committee Chair Katy Yaroslavsky. "We are in a stronger position than last year, but we still face real fiscal uncertainty, rising costs, and major threats to future City revenues. This budget invests in core services, maintains key investments in homelessness, public safety, fire response, and infrastructure, and puts the City on stronger financial footing."
