In a sea of students, Sterling Levine '27 didn't want to feel like a statistic. As a transfer student studying psychologywith an art, science, and innovationminor, Levine says that it was the faculty connections that first made an impression on them.
"It was like a breath of fresh air. As soon as the transfer process started, I got to work one-on-one with faculty who were invested in my story and helped advocate for what I would need reentering college," says Levine. "I felt like an adult student who was recognized for their unique experience and valued for it, rather than just another statistic."
The emphasis on unusual combinations continued to resonate with Levine as it provided a personalized learning experience, instead of a one-size-fits-all approach. All students are required to declare a major and minor at Allegheny College, but they must be in different academic areas to strengthen their interdisciplinary learning.
Outside of the classroom, Levine notes that "It's so much easier to find a place where I belong than I had thought possible. At this point, I can just walk across campus and inevitably see a whole bunch of friends! It's a fantastic feeling I wouldn't trade for anything else."
For those considering transferring to another institution, Levine offers the following advice.
"If you feel like you're not seen for who you are at your current school, or that you don't fit into the mold of a 'typical student,' Allegheny is a fantastic option," notes Levine. "This is a campus that is accepting, that challenges you to do more, that teaches in a way that connects with you, and a place that feels like home."
