Department of Public Works Announces January Christmas Tree Collection
Published on December 22, 2025
The City of Syracuse Department of Public Works (DPW) will collect natural Christmas trees curbside using a quadrant pickup schedule during the month of January. Residents should set out trees in the Northeast on Jan. 3-4, Southeast on Jan. 10-11, Southwest on Jan. 17-18, and Northwest on Jan. 24-25.
Before placing trees curbside, residents should remove all decorations, lights, tinsel, stands, plastic, and metal from trees. Natural wreaths, garland or swags will not be accepted as they have metal in them. Artificial trees should be properly bagged and disposed of inside a city provided trash cart according to the regular pickup schedule or by scheduling a bulk pickup by calling Cityline at 315-448-CITY (2489).
Bulk items are large items, such as furniture, that can't fit inside your trash cart. For bulk pickup utilization the City requires residents to call two days prior to the date of needing the actual pick up as there is a delay due to the Christmas Holiday. Residents can request up to 4 bulk item collections each calendar year. If residents call after Dec. 29
it will be considered a 2026 bulk pick up.
Residents may also drop off trees to Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) at either the Jamesville Compost Site, located at 4370 Route 91, Jamesville, or the Amboy Compost Site, located at 6296 Airport Road, Camillus. Both sites are open for free tree drop off Monday through Friday (excluding weekends), Jan. 5 to Jan. 16, 2026, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Visit
