BATTERY SAFETY AT A GLANCE

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue reminds residents that lithium-ion batteries can overheat or catch fire if damaged or improperly used.

Stay Safe:

  • Use only the correct battery, charger and cord.

  • Don't charge devices on beds, couches or under pillows.

  • Stop using batteries that smell, leak, overheat, swell or make odd noises. If a fire occurs, evacuate and call 9-1-1.

Proper Disposal:

  • Alkaline batteries: Okay in regular trash; not recycling

  • Vehicle batteries: Schedule free pickup at 727-893-7398.

  • Rechargeable & lithium-ion batteries: Never in trash or recycling - visit batterynetwork.org to find a drop-off location
