Rep. Sykes Highlights Ohio's Role in Artemis II Launch

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13), a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight, released the following statement on today's launch of Artemis II:

"Artemis II is an exciting step forward and a reminder that America's leadership in space is built on decades of innovation, including the extraordinary contributions of Ohioans," said Rep. Sykes. "From Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, Jim Lovell, and Judith Resnik, to the work happening today at the NASA Glenn Research Center, Ohio has always helped lead the way. In Congress, I'm focused on supporting that legacy, strengthening the workforce, investing in new technologies, and making sure missions like Artemis II deliver for the American people."

Rep. Sykes is the only Ohioan serving on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, which oversees the nation's civilian space program and helps shape the future of NASA.

The House Science Committee recently advanced two bills led by Rep. Sykes as part of the NASA Reauthorization Act. The NASA Talent Exchange Program Act would set up a program that lets NASA employees work with private companies, universities, and nonprofits and vice versa to share expertise and strengthen the aerospace workforce. The other, the AIRSHIP Act, focuses on modern airship technology and how it could be used for disaster response and humanitarian missions.
