Minister Tajani presents Italian Foreign Ministry’s reform to trade unions

The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, met today at the Farnesina with the trade union representatives of the various staff categories working within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI). The meeting focused on the reform of the Italian Foreign Ministry, recently approved by the Council of Ministers. On this occasion, Minister Tajani reiterated the Government's ongoing commitment to strengthening the Ministry's human and financial resources in service of citizens. He emphasised the unique role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in supporting national growth and in protecting Italians around the world.

"The true pillars of the Ministry are the people who, both in Rome and abroad, work with dedication, professionalism and a strong sense of public service," declared Minister Tajani, highlighting the significant investment made in recent years to recruit around 1,500 additional staff members across all personnel categories between 2025 and early 2026. In this context - which also represents an extraordinary opportunity for generational renewal - training plays a central role. The Ministry is working closely with the Department of Public Administration on this key issue.

Referring to the reform, the Minister thanked the trade unions for their contributions over the past months and for the ongoing, open dialogue. Under the new structure, the Italian Foreign Ministry will adopt a dual leadership model to manage, in a more integrated manner, the instruments of growth diplomacy alongside those more closely related to international political and security affairs. The reform also places greater focus on cybersecurity and technological innovation, while aiming to improve services provided to Italian citizens abroad.
