Local Students Complete Summer Internships in Congressman Comer’s D.C. Office

WASHINGTON-Today, Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.) recognized local students Benton Hayes, Aydan Joiner, Maclyn Jones, and Coleman Wright for recently completing summer internships in his Washington D.C. office. While serving Kentucky's 1st Congressional District, Benton, Aydan, Maclyn, and Coleman were dedicated to helping Congressman Comer's staff research legislative issues, provide office assistance, and conduct constituent Capitol tours.

"Benton, Aydan, Maclyn, and Coleman were tremendous assets to my Washington office this summer, and I want to express my gratitude for their exceptional service to Kentucky's 1st Congressional District. This group has a bright future ahead of them, and I look forward to seeing each of their continued success and achievements," Congressman Comer said.

Benton Hayes, a Casey County native, is pursuing his undergraduate degree at Yale University studying History and Economics.

"This internship taught me the importance of maintaining strong district connections which is meaningful since I go to an out of state school. I appreciate learning from Congressman Comer and his staff and seeing how much they pour back into the community that developed them," Mr. Hayes said.

Aydan Joiner, a Trigg County native, is pursuing his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky studying Finance and Pre-Law.

"This has been a great experience learning about career paths on Capitol Hill. Throughout this internship I met great people and made great connections for my future career," Mr. Joiner said.

Maclyn Jones, a Fulton County native, is pursuing her graduate degree from the Chase School of Law at Northern Kentucky University.

"I enjoyed learning about the legislative process and meeting a group of like-minded individuals from Kentucky. This internship has enhanced my understanding of Constitutional ideology," Ms. Jones said.

Coleman Wright, a Casey County native, is pursuing his undergraduate degree at the University of Mississippi studying Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies.

"This internship has been a fantastic experience learning about the legislative process hands on with Congressman Comer and his staff. I will use the skills that I have learned for years to come," Mr. Wright said.

In the Washington, DC office, internships run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters for college students. They may be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House.
