On September 27, 2025, at the 37th Session of the International Coordinating Council of the Man and Biosphere Programme in Hangzhou, China, the Romit Biosphere Reserve has officially been designated as part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Inclusion of Romit reflects Tajikistan's commitment to sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and the harmonious coexistence of people and nature.

Located in a unique ecological zone, the Romit Biosphere Reserve is known for its rich biodiversity, endemic species, and traditional land-use practices.

As a designated biosphere reserve, Romit will serve as a model site for balancing conservation efforts with the needs of local communities, supporting scientific research, environmental education, and sustainable economic development.
