AUC Chairperson met with Special Representative of UNSG & Head of MINUSCA

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, met with Ms. Valentine Rugwabiza, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General & Head of MINUSCA, to review the evolving security & political situation in the Central African Republic (CAR) & the wider region.

They welcomed the significant progress made by CAR in strengthening security & state institutions, & exchanged views on the recent elections.

They also expressed concern over the regional implications of the conflicts in Sudan & the political situation in South Sudan, underscoring the importance of sustained regional cooperation.

The Chairperson highlighted the growing resource constraints facing international peacekeeping operations in Africa, stressing the need for predictable & sustainable financing.

He reaffirmed AU's commitment to deepening cooperation with UN peacekeeping missions in advancing peace, security & stability across the continent.
