WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) released the following statement on House passage of a Department of Homeland Security funding bill, which fully funds all DHS agencies except for ICE and CBP.
"The shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security has been needless from the start. On February 11th, three days before this shutdown even began, I cosponsored a bill to fully fund all DHS agencies except for ICE and CBP. That same framework passed the Senate unanimously over a month ago, but Speaker Johnson blocked consideration of the bill until today, when it passed without any opposition," Courtney said. "For 76 days, critical DHS agencies that have nothing to do with the out of control lawless actions of ICE have taken the brunt of this shutdown. The men and women of the Coast Guard, TSA, cybersecurity, and more critical DHS agencies should not face missed paychecks and utility outages because leaders in Washington stalled a bipartisan deal for months. The President must sign this funding bill immediately."
