Edwards Advances FY27 Agriculture Appropriations Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Edwards voted to pass H.R. 8646, the FY27 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug, Administration, and Related Agencies to support rural America and strengthen farms across the nation.

The FY27 Agriculture bill appropriates nearly $30 billion for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The legislation supports programs that protect America's food and drug supply, strengthen farmers and rural communities, and ensure families have access to critical nutrition programs.

Additionally, this legislation reins in unnecessary spending, refocuses agencies on their core missions, and puts the health, safety, and prosperity of American producers and consumers first.

Congressman Edwards secured several key priorities for North Carolina's 11th Congressional District in the FY27 Agriculture bill, including:

  • $2,000,000 to Balsam Grove Volunteer Rescue for the construction of a new fire station.
  • $1,500,000 to Henderson County EMS for the construction of a new EMS Substation in Henderson County.
  • $3,000,000 to Mitchell County for the construction and development of the Resiliency Hub to strengthen disaster preparedness, response, and long-term recovery.

"Western North Carolina depends on strong farms, reliable emergency services, and resilient rural communities," said Congressman Edwards. "This funding delivers critical investments that will support our farmers, strengthen disaster response and recovery efforts, and help our communities continue to grow and succeed."
