(Houston, Texas) - On Thursday, October 29, 2026, Congressman Al Green proudly introduced H.Res.1644, the "Original National Domestic Violence Awareness Month Resolution of 2026." This bipartisan resolution, which is supported by the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the National Network to End Domestic Violence, highlights the devastating effects of domestic violence on individuals, families, and communities while calling for continued awareness and support for programs working to end domestic violence nationwide. A copy of the resolution can be accessed by clicking here.
This resolution details the widespread impact of domestic violence across the United States, including the disproportionate rates experienced by women and marginalized communities, as well as the lasting effects abuse can have on survivors' health, safety, housing, and economic security. Through this resolution, Congressman Green, joined by 84 of his colleagues, calls on Congress to continue raising awareness of domestic violence and supporting programs dedicated to preventing and ending abuse nationwide.
Congressman Al Green stated, "Domestic violence is an injustice that no person should have to endure and no person of goodwill with knowledge of domestic violence should tolerate. We cannot be silent when survivors are suffering, and we cannot be satisfied with merely mitigating domestic violence when our moral imperative must be to eliminate it. During National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we recommit ourselves to standing with survivors, supporting the advocates and organizations doing lifesaving work, and confronting domestic violence wherever it exists. There can be no justice in a society where people live in fear of violence in their own homes. We must act with compassion, courage, and conviction to end domestic violence."
