Alice & Bob’s Consultative Board Meeting 2026

PARIS, 23 October 2026 - Alice & Bob, a leader in fault tolerant quantum computing, hosted its annual Consultative Board meeting.

The Consultative Board, formed in 2024, is composed of world-renowned physicists and is an opportunity for Alice & Bob to engage with an "outside-in" perspective, focusing on the key challenges and scientific milestones in building a fault-tolerant quantum computer.

The Consultative Board is composed of renowned scientists:

  • Prof. John Martinis led the Google team behind the 2019 quantum supremacy experiment, one of the most famous quantum experiments to date. He shared the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics with John Clarke and Michel Devoret for the discovery of macroscopic quantum tunneling and energy quantisation in an electric circuit, the foundation of superconducting qubits.
  • Prof. Daniel Gottesman created the stabiliser formalism, the framework behind nearly all quantum error-correcting codes, and co-invented the Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill code. He also showed that low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes allow fault tolerance with constant overhead, the basis of Alice & Bob's LDPC-cat codes.
  • Prof. David DiVincenzo formulated the DiVincenzo criteria at IBM in 1996, the five requirements a physical system must meet to serve as a quantum computer, still the standard checklist for any qubit platform. That same year he co-authored a foundational paper on fault-tolerant error correction with Peter Shor and co-discovered the five-qubit code.
  • Prof. Yasunobu Nakamura is one of the fathers of the superconducting qubit: in 1999 at NEC, his team achieved the first coherent control of a Cooper-pair box, the platform on which Alice & Bob's cat qubits are built. His group then demonstrated the first two-qubit gate between superconducting qubits in 2003.

The board is composed of experimentalists and theorists who have had significant impacts on their respective fields. Together, their areas of expertise cover an array of topics which are highly relevant to Alice & Bob, including superconducting circuits, quantum error correction, and quantum information theory.

This year the meeting focused on software simulation, qubit design and calibration, the packaging of Alice & Bob's qubits, and quantum applications.

"We are doing something which has never been done before - there is no instruction manual on how to build a quantum computer. Meeting with our Consultative Board is a valuable opportunity to gather insights and open ourselves up to challenges on our direction and approach from some of the most respected scientists in the field." said Raphaël Lescanne, CTO and co-founder, Alice & Bob

About Alice & Bob

Alice & Bob is a quantum computing company based in Paris and Boston whose goal is to create the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer. Founded in 2020, Alice & Bob has raised €180 million in funding and employs more than 250 people.

Advised by Nobel Prize winning researchers, Alice & Bob specializes in cat qubits, a technology developed by the company's founders. Demonstrating the power of its cat architecture, Alice & Bob recently showed that it could reduce the hardware requirements for building a useful large-scale quantum computer up to 200 times compared with competing approaches.
