The NATO Communications and Information Agency Selects Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Oracle today announced that the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) will move its mission-critical workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Delivered in collaboration with Red Reply, and Shield Reply, the Reply Group companies specialising in Oracle technologies, and prime contractor Thales, NCIA will move its on-premises workloads to OCI to benefit from OCI's sovereign cloud solutions, high performance, availability, AI innovation, and enterprise-grade security.

NCIA is the technology and cyber hub of NATO, focusing on connecting the Alliance, defending its networks, and supporting its operations. Its mission is to provide secure, cost-effective, and interoperable communications and information systems and services to NATO. To support this mission and its ongoing modernisation programme, NCIA is enhancing its capacity and optimising the performance of its systems.

"Together with Oracle, we are committed to helping NCIA provide secure, cloud-oriented, and interoperable communications and information systems and services to NATO," said Alexandre Bottero, Vice President Network and Infrastructure Systems, Thales. "With OCI, NCIA will be able to take advantage of the latest cloud and AI innovations to modernise its technology infrastructure without compromising the security of its mission-critical data."

With OCI's sovereign cloud capabilities, NCIA will be able to meet its requirements for data residency, services at hyperscale, and operational controls.

"Red Reply and Shield Reply, as the selected Oracle partners, will bring their deep expertise in Oracle technologies, delivering a full suite of consulting and managed services - from discovery and secure design to the migration of three legacy data centres to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure," said Filippo Rizzante, CTO at Reply. "Our goal is to ensure a secure, seamless, and future-proof transition to the cloud for NCIA's mission-critical workloads."

"OCI will help the NCIA manage, analyse, and protect their data while also giving them more control and peace of mind where data is stored and where workloads run," said Richard Smith, executive vice president of technology and general manager, Oracle EMEA. "We are proud to support NATO and look forward to helping the Alliance benefit from Oracle's AI-optimized cloud in a secure, resilient environment."

Red Reply, Shield Reply and Thales will oversee the integration of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure into the NATO Information System, guaranteeing end-to-end data security and coordinating the associated workload migration, while Proximus will deliver advanced networking capabilities.

About Oracle Distributed Cloud

Oracle's distributed cloud delivers the benefits of cloud with greater control and flexibility. Oracle's distributed cloud lineup includes:

  • Public cloud: Hyperscale public cloud regions serve any size of organization, including those requiring strict EU sovereignty controls. See the full list of regions here.
  • Dedicated cloud: Customers can run all OCI cloud services in their own data centers with OCI Dedicated Region, while partners can resell OCI cloud services and customize the experience using Oracle Alloy. Oracle also operates separate U.S., UK, and Australian Government Clouds, and Isolated Cloud Regions for national security purposes. Each of these products provides a full cloud and AI stack that customers can deploy as a Sovereign Cloud.
  • Hybrid cloud: OCI delivers key cloud services on-premises via Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer and Compute Cloud@Customer and is already managing deployments in over 60 countries. Additionally, OCI Roving Edge Infrastructure, which consists of multiple configurations of ruggedized and portable high-performance devices, helps customers leverage remote AI inferencing at the edge.
  • Multicloud: OCI is physically deployed within all the hyperscale cloud providers, including AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, providing low latency, natively integrated Oracle database services, including Oracle Database@AWS, Oracle Database@Azure, Oracle Database@Google Cloud, and Oracle HeatWave on AWS and Microsoft Azure. Oracle Interconnect for Microsoft Azure and Oracle Interconnect for Google Cloud allow customers to combine key capabilities from across clouds.
