Notable Trends

• Officers arrested the suspect in the arson reported this week. Witnesses saw him throw something on fire into an apartment window, catching a couch on fire. It was extinguished before it spread. A video helped identify the suspect and a witness helped officers locate him.
• Four aggravated assaults this week with two open investigations and two arrests. In one arrest, the suspect kicked the victim in the face and strangled her. In another, the suspect punched a bus driver after the driver asked him to leave the bus due to erratic and threatening behavior. He was located nearby by officers.
• Two rapes reported that are both open investigations. The victim knew the suspect in one case. The other case was a third-party report and is pending contact from the victim.
• Two auto thefts reported this week. One was a moped. The other was a 2025 Ford Transit stolen overnight from U-Haul. Bonney Lake PD recovered the vehicle.
• Seven vehicle prowls reported this week with one open investigation. Officers arrested one suspect after a friend of the victim saw the suspect in his car. Officers located the suspect nearby and recovered the stolen property. Charges were referred to the prosecutor on another case for a suspect who kicked in the back window of a truck. Witnesses scared the suspect off, and officers identified him from video provided by a witness.

• Officers responded to 1,186 calls for service this week.
• In this week's photo, OPD, other local first responders and partners showed support to military personnel during the 2026 Foofaraw event put on by the Thurston County Chamber and Olympia Yacht Club, taking over 250 active-duty military service members for a day of fun at Island Home.
