Frostburg State University's Social Work program has been granted 8 years of continuing accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) for its compliance with educational policies and accreditation standards. CSWE-accredited social work programs like Frostburg's provide assurance that it is committed to quality and educating students with the skills necessary to enter the profession. FSU's social work program has been continuously accredited by CWSE for more than 30 years.
"Accreditation is the hallmark of any profession, and it is the only assurance to the public that it has met national standards," said Boyce Williams, PhD, Dean of the College of Education, Behavioral and Health Professions. "The Department of Labor projects that social work in health care will grow faster than average, and the college takes great pride in having all of our behavioral and health professions programs nationally accredited."
Frostburg's Social Work Program is designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in social work, teaching about the field and the importance of human relationships. Students study the theoretical foundations of the profession while engaging in advocacy and quantitative and qualitative research. Graduates of the CSWE-accredited program are eligible to apply to take the baccalaureate social work licensure exam in the state they intend to practice.
"FSU's team has achieved remarkable success with this program," said Yum Nguyen, PhD, ATC, interim assistant dean in the College of Education, Behavioral and Health Professions. "This milestone is a testament to their talent and perseverance, and I am genuinely excited to see all the incredible things the program will achieve in the future."
Associate professor and the director of FSU's social work program, Nancy Giunta, PhD, MSW, MA, echoed those sentiments. "Congratulations to everyone involved for their hard work, contributions and support throughout this lengthy process."
