The Council adopted a resolution supporting the city's police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and all first responders, while condemning violence against those who serve the community.
The resolution comes in response to a violent incident in the early morning hours of October 5, 2025, in the South End/Roxbury neighborhood, where a Boston Police cruiser was set on fire and officers were assaulted while responding to an unlawful street takeover.
Council members emphasized the serious risks faced daily by first responders, recognizing their professionalism, dedication, and the sacrifices made not only by those in uniform but also by their families.
The Council condemned all acts of violence or intimidation against first responders and called for full accountability for those responsible for the October 5th assault and arson.
In addition, the resolution reaffirmed the Council's commitment to ensuring first responders have the resources, respect, and protection needed to carry out their duties safely, assuring their families that the city stands with them now and in the future.
