Stafford County is building on significant roadway safety and congestion improvements from the past decade and asking residents to help shape what comes next. As the County updates its Transportation Master Plan, community members are invited to share their priorities for improving roadway safety, reducing congestion and expanding bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Whether it's a busy intersection, a road that needs safety improvements or a missing sidewalk or trail connection, the County wants to hear from the people who use its transportation network every day.
Your Input Matters: Help Shape Stafford's Transportation Future
As the County looks ahead, the updated Transportation Master Plan will help identify where additional investments are needed and which projects should be prioritized.
Residents can participate through an online survey, community meetings and pop-up events. Stafford County staff and the project team will be available through November to hear directly from the community.

2. Pop-Up Event
3. Take The Survey Residents can also participate by completing the online transportation survey at staffordcountyva.gov/tmp.
Feedback from residents at these in-person events and online will be considered alongside traffic and safety data, existing transportation projects, projected growth, available funding and other technical information as the County develops the updated plan.
Transportation affects everyone, whether you're commuting to work, taking children to school, walking in your neighborhood or traveling through the County. The County encourages residents to take a few minutes to share their experiences and ideas. These responses will help guide transportation decisions and investments for years to come.
Safer Roads: Investments Deliver Measurable Results
Stafford County is seeing measurable results from its transportation investments. In 2025, the County recorded 1,768 roadway crashes, which was its lowest annual total in 20 years, excluding the pandemic year of 2020. When crashes on the interstate are excluded, the total drops to 1,176.
Long-term improvements are also making a difference. According to County transportation data, Stafford has experienced an average of 15.3% fewer crashes per year, even as vehicle traffic has increased. Meanwhile, average commute travel times have improved by 20%, signaling meaningful progress in keeping traffic moving.
These improvements demonstrate what thoughtful transportation investments can accomplish. As Stafford continues to grow, the County needs to understand where residents are experiencing challenges and what improvements will make the greatest difference in their daily lives. Community input is vital to that process.
Stafford County's commitment to improving roadway safety has been underway since the 2008 Bond program. The work was then expanded through the wedge-widening program included in the 2019 Bond Referendum. These investments have helped address roadway safety concerns on rural roads and improve conditions for motorists.
