Weidmann Group Announces Expansion in Ohio, Including New Facility in Middletown

Company to increase production and bring a new product group to its Ohio operations

Southwest Ohio, July 8, 2026 - Weidmann Electrical Technology, the world leader in electrical transformer insulation, is investing $155 million to expand its Ohio operations with a new facility in Middletown and increase production at its Urbana facility. The project is expected to create 105 new jobs through 2027.

Ohio has played an important role in Weidmann's success for many years, and this investment reflects our confidence in the region, its workforce, and its future," said Weidmann Electrical Technology Vice President of Operations Americas Wally Mahoney. "As demand for power transformers continues to grow, expanding our operations in Ohio will strengthen our manufacturing capabilities, support our customers, and create new opportunities for growth in both Middletown and Urbana.

Weidmann Group CEO Max Veit added, "This investment is another important step in our long-term commitment to supporting our customers with the manufacturing capacity, technology, and expertise needed to strengthen and modernize the energy infrastructure of the future."

Coordinated efforts among local, regional, and state stakeholders helped secure the expansion, including the Ohio Department of Development, JobsOhio, REDI Cincinnati, Dayton Development Coalition, city of Middletown, and city of Urbana.

Weidmann's continued investment in Ohio is critical to the role it plays in U.S. energy security," said JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef. "With support from REDI Cincinnati and the Dayton Development Coalition, the company will catalyze the expansion of energy transmission and secure the grid for future generations.

The expansion reflects Weidmann's commitment to strengthening the U.S. energy sector as the largest North American producer of transformer insulation materials. The new Middletown facility will feature a next-generation production line for Transformerboard, a critical material used in the manufacture and long-term reliability of power transformers. At the same time, Weidmann's existing Urbana facility will expand to support the Middletown operation and meet growing demand for the specialized insulation paper products it manufactures. Together, these investments will enhance domestic supply chain resilience and support the increasing global demand for electrical transformer insulation.

This reinvestment in a historic manufacturing facility strengthens our growing, business-focused ecosystem while solidifying our industrial legacy across the region," said City of Middletown City Manager Ashley Combs. "The Butler County Land Bank and JobsOhio were crucial in helping Weidmann Electrical Technology find a home here in Middletown, bringing new job opportunities to our residents and providing the company with access to a large regional workforce.

With this investment, Weidmann will expand key parts of its business in Ohio, strengthening engineering, technical, and operations roles across the two facilities. The investment reinforces Weidmann's commitment to Southwest Ohio and its confidence in the region's workforce. Training and employee development are integral to Weidmann's operations. More than 70 percent of the company's production team leaders and supervisors began their careers in entry-level positions, advancing through on-the-job training and continued education.

The City of Urbana welcomes the continued growth of Weidmann Electrical Technology in our community," said Mayor of Urbana Bill Bean. "Since revitalizing the former Fox River Paper/Howard Paper mill on West Court Street in partnership with the City of Urbana over a decade ago, Weidmann has continued to grow its Urbana operation. Furthermore, Weidmann has also given back to the larger Urbana and Champaign County community, including its support to reinvest in Weidmann Park, which is adjacent to its Urbana mill.

Weidmann is redeveloping a nearly 16-acre brownfield site in Middletown that has been vacant for over a year, returning advanced manufacturing to a property with a proven track record of industrial excellence. The investment includes extensive facility upgrades and the installation of a new, next-generation Transformerboard production line.

The Middletown facility is expected to begin operations in 2028 and will create 65 new jobs. In addition, the project will support the creation of approximately 40 new positions at Weidmann's existing Urbana facility, where the company currently employs 215 people and generates an annual payroll of more than $19 million.

Weidmann's expansion strengthens workforce opportunities in Ohio's growing advanced manufacturing industry, supporting a sector that continues to attract investment, drive innovation, and create jobs across the state.

Additional comments regarding today's announcement:

Kevin Donnelly, Vice President of Project Management, REDI Cincinnati

Weidmann's expansion into Middletown represents the company's sixth Electrical Technology location in the Americas and underscores the importance of foreign direct investment in our region's diverse economy. This investment strengthens Weidmann's global manufacturing footprint, creates high-quality, well-paying regional jobs with competitive benefits, and supports Middletown's broader economic development initiatives, including major infrastructure improvements, downtown revitalization efforts, and continued growth in advanced manufacturing.

Julie Sullivan, Executive Vice President of Regional Development, Dayton Development Coalition

Weidmann Electrical Technology first established an Ohio presence in Urbana to capitalize on the community's highly skilled manufacturing workforce. The expansion in Urbana and the new facility in Middletown strengthen the company's U.S. production capacity and will support Weidmann's growth in the energy industry for years to come.

Kole Grossnickle, Director of Butler County Land Bank

The Butler County Land Reutilization Corporation helps communities throughout Butler County transform vacant and underutilized properties into productive community assets. Our partnership with Weidmann represents a new strategy for the Land Bank to achieve those goals and will help move an abandoned industrial site toward meaningful redevelopment, strengthening the neighborhood, increasing property value, and supporting future economic growth.

State Representative Thomas Hall

I could not be more pleased that Weidmann chose to expand its operations in Middletown and redevelop vacant land to spur economic opportunity. Not only will this expansion support one of Ohio's biggest industries-manufacturing-but it will provide quality job opportunities to residents of the 46th House District.

State Senator George Lang

Ohio is emerging nationally as a destination to do business and make economic investments. My colleagues and I continue to work to reduce the tax burden and maximize the opportunities for our qualified workforce because Ohio is a great place to live, work, and raise a family, by reinvigorating vacant land and creating dozens of good-paying jobs, Weidmann is making a major investment in the future of Middletown. This is outstanding news for Butler County and the entire Southwest Ohio region.
