On 9 June 2026, the AI & MEDTECH CEE 2026 conference took place at the ADN Conference Centre in Browary Warszawskie. The event was dedicated to artificial intelligence and innovation in healthcare. The Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, Konrad Komornicki, took part in the conference.
During the session "Threats and Limits of AI Use", Konrad Komornicki delivered a lecture titled "Is AI a Threat to Data?". In his speech, he emphasised that the problem is not artificial intelligence itself, but the lack of oversight over data. He pointed out that risks arise when an organisation loses control over the purpose, scope and responsibility for data processing.
Konrad Komornicki, Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, also noted that as many as 54% of employees using AI tools do not inform their employers about it. He stressed that this creates specific problems for organisations, such as data being entered into AI tools without the organisation's knowledge; failure to comply with the accountability principle, as there is no decision authorising such actions or an assessment of data protection impacts; and an increased risk of personal data breaches due to entering personal data, confidential information and documents into AI tools. He underlined that organisations should carry out a thorough pre-implementation analysis before introducing AI. This analysis should be based on legal considerations as well as the organisation's specifications and capabilities.
He also highlighted that before implementing AI-based solutions, it is necessary to take legal and organisational decisions, and only afterwards select specific technological tools. Konrad Komornicki further informed that the Personal Data Protection Office will supervise high-risk AI models, including those processing medical and biometric data.
AI & MEDTECH CEE 2026 is one of the largest events in Central and Eastern Europe dedicated to AI and innovation in the healthcare sector. The conference brought together technology leaders, healthcare experts, representatives of public administration, medical institutions, start-ups, industry organisations and investment funds from Poland and abroad.
