LaHood Statement on Ending the Government Shutdown

Washington, D.C. - Tonight, Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-16) issued the statement below following the House of Representatives' vote to reopen the government.

"In September, I voted to avoid the Schumer Shutdown. Tonight, I proudly joined my colleagues in voting to put an end to it," said Rep. LaHood. "While I'm glad a handful of Senate Democrats finally came to their senses and broke away from Chuck Schumer, this shutdown was entirely avoidable and went on far too long. Over the last 42 days our families have faced uncertainty, workers have gone unpaid, and our economy has been damaged all because Democrats wanted to use Americans' suffering as political leverage. I hope moving forward they recognize that this decision was reckless and grossly irresponsible. I look forward to picking up where we left off and continuing to deliver for the people of Illinois' 16th District."
