On the occasion of Hungarian-Polish Friendship Day, the Hungarian President, visiting Poland, was received by Polish Head of State Karol Nawrocki with a military salute in front of the Town Hall in Przemyśl. In his press statement following the plenary session, Dr. Tamás Sulyok emphasised that Hungarian-Polish friendship is based on a shared historical destiny and is a value that transcends the political situation of the day. "Hungarian-Polish friendship is a special relationship dating back several centuries, nourished by a shared historical destiny and Christian roots."
This bond is celebrated every year on 23 March by both countries, a date officially declared Friendship Day in 2007 by the Hungarian National Assembly and the Polish Parliament. Following the meeting between the Heads of State, the two Presidents travelled together to Budapest, where the President of Hungary hosted his Polish counterpart.
On the two nations' joint Day of Remembrance in Przemyśl, Dr. Tamás Sulyok laid a wreath in the town's military cemetery at the memorial plaque to Austro-Hungarian soldiers who fell in World War I, whilst Karol Nawrocki laid a wreath at the statue of General József Bem in Budapest.
