PINEHURST, N.C. - Lung cancer continues to be one of the most common cancers in America, and it is the leading cause of cancer deaths annually.
The American Cancer Society estimated that about 226,650 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed in 2025, while about 124,000 will die from the disease. These numbers are more than colon, breast and prostate cancers combined.
In partnership with GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer, FirstHealth will host its annual Shine-A-Light event at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, 2025, at the FirstHealth Cancer Center (135 Page Road North, Pinehurst, N.C.). The event is free and open to the public.
The 2025 vigil will include a program that brings hope to patients with small-cell cancer and describes the coordinated process of making a new drug available to patients at the FirstHealth Cancer Center, previously only given at tertiary cancer centers.
Dr. Bradley Icard, D.O., a board certified specialist in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine at Pinehurst Medical Clinic, will also provide an update of FirstHealth's Lung Screening program and how the system is working to ease barriers to lung cancer screenings.
FirstHealth's event will be one of more than 200 similar events held nationwide during November, which is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
