HHSC Offering Trainings During National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

HHSC is offering online trainings on suicide prevention, intervention and community support strategies as part of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September.

By knowing the warning signs of people who may be at risk of suicide and the resources available to them, anyone can make a difference in the lives of those thinking about suicide.

Public Suicide Prevention Webinar Series

  • Sept. 5: Hope and Healing Through Postvention Support
    10-11 a.m.
    Learn about support strategies for survivors of suicide loss and suicide attempt.
  • Sept. 12: Language Matters
    10:30-11:30 a.m.
    The HHSC Suicide Prevention Team will discuss ways to talk about suicide in a clear and factual manner and give tips for messaging about suicide prevention.
  • Sept. 19: Conversations with Survivors of Suicide Attempt
    10-11:30 a.m.
    A panel of survivors of suicide attempt will share their perspectives on how people can offer support, and what works best as they process their experiences with suicide.
  • Sept. 26: The Role of Mindfulness in Suicide Prevention
    10-11 a.m.
    This presentation will show how consistently practicing mindfulness can offer a promising avenue for suicide prevention.

Being able to identify warning signs is a crucial step in getting people the help they need. The signs can include talking or writing about suicide, putting affairs in order or increasing use of substances.
