WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee will hold two field hearings in Louisiana next week to discuss how Congress can make health care affordable and improve mental health and substance use disorder treatment. The Committee will hear from a variety of perspectives within the health care system, including patients, providers, and local subject matter experts.
This comes after U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, recently unveiled the Money and Value for Patients (MVP) agenda to lower health costs and empower patients to choose the care that works best for them. Additionally, President Trump recently signed into law Cassidy's SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act, which bolsters prevention, treatment, and recovery services for Americans with substance use disorders and mental illness. The President also signed into law Cassidy's HALT Fentanyl Act, which gives law enforcement another tool to combat drug cartels by permanently scheduling fentanyl-related substances (FRS) as Schedule I under the Controlled Substances Act.
