WSU victorious in the second annual Boeing Apple Cup Food Pantry Challenge

For the second year in a row, Washington State University has come out on top of the Boeing Apple Cup Food Pantry Challenge.

Of the total raised, WSU received $12,677 from 113 gifts compared with the University of Washington's $6,949 from 87 gifts. In total, both universities raised $19,626 for their campus food pantries.

Camille Vaughn, director of development in Student Affairs, said the challenge was a success in raising awareness about food insecurity, and it demonstrated that gifts of any size make a cumulative impact. WSU's gifts ranged from $5 to $1,000.

"By including all WSU campuses this year, we recognized that this is a statewide issue," Vaughn said. "The results this year are truer to the spirit of the challenge, and we cannot thank the Coug community enough."

During 2024-2025, WSU's campus pantries supported more than 58,000 student visits, with the Pullman location distributing an average of 25,000 pounds of food per month.

Members of the Cougar community who missed the chance to give during the challenge can support the pantries any time of year and make donation on the WSU Foundation website.
